I remembered the day when she died, it was a wintery morning. I lied in the bed and the news just popped up on my Facebook. The reason that I would come to New York to study films, I think it’s somewhat influenced by her. This video is made according to her book "Taipei Dad, New York Mom." I was trying to visit those places that she used to live and work in New York. Finished on the day she passed away for a year, I’d like to dedicate this film to Mickey Chen.

OCD, or obsessive compulsive disorder, is a series of specific involuntary and repetitive ritual behaviors that I’ve been going through in my everyday life. In the past, this mental disorder used to influence my everyday functioning in some time of my life that I would constantly feel extremely anxious and insecure for particular incidents. This kind of feeling caused me repeating certain behaviors to try to reduce the stress. Although now it is not as severe as before, it’s still stayed with me. Taking this experience as a theme, I try to convey this experience by visualizing this anxiety. I use the camera as my “another eye” to record/witness the actual process that I had been through.

Through photography, time and space are compressed on a chemical film, which represents an accumulation of movements and transfers. Kyoko Hamaguchi applies this concept to create a pinhole camera photography project in the New York City metro system. This film overlaps and interlaces images and sounds of her art-creating process in different ways to echo Kyoko’s artistic concept, temporality.

This is a community action documentary exploring the dynamics of time-honored local industries in Taipei’s first historical street and the possibility of urban regeneration. We interviewed different local businesses—incense shops, Chinese herb shops, smith shops and so on —documenting their stories and their ways of survival in the modern society. We also interviewed spatial experts to learn more about their heritage and value in an evolving metropolis. We believe the understanding of traditional industries is the first step to reviving an old district.
