Jay Chieh-Chun Lee is a film/video maker from Taipei, Taiwan. Before immersing himself in the field of visual arts, he worked in urban planning for four years. As an urban planner, Jay always entered into different communities to investigate the state of the environment and used a camera to document his observations. After working on several location-based documentaries, he decided to broaden his perspective and technique in New York City. His approach to art starts from his personal experience and the stories that surround him, with an aim to arrive at a broader social context. He believes that by narrating his own experiences and thoughts and making films that tell stories of people, he can understand how we perceive the relationship between self and the society and how we construct our point of views seeing this world.
He is currently pursuing the Master of Fine Arts in Integrated Media Arts at CUNY Hunter College and develops his independent projects by using a wide range of media such as video, installation, and graphics.
